Some changes have been taking place with our service, including a new
server placed online. Although we have a new server, as always you can access your web page by using www.(your domain name) or www.dycon.com/your directory structure.
Standardized Directory Structure
We have implemented a standard directory structure for all our virtual domains.
Each virtual domain directory will have sub-directories /html, /images,
/stats, /logs, and /cgi-bin. All htm or html documents should be placed in
the /html subdirectory. All graphic images (.gif or .jpg) should be in the
/images directory. The /stats and /logs directories are read only for users.
The /cgi-bin directory is used to support counter and form files.
Maintaining Your Web Pages
For remote access (FTP) to maintain your web pages we have changed
the server setup. To access your domain, initially start your FTP client or
open WsFTP if a FTP client is not available. Dial host name FTP.(your
domain name).com. You will be prompted for your user name and
password. Most user names and passwords are the same as those used when
you dial into your account with Dynamic. If that does not work please call us
and we will help you. Once your FTP connection is established, you should
be located in your home directory structure.
Each web site must use index.htm or index.html as the home page file.
For new virtual domains there will be a sample index.htm file. You must
replace the sample file with your own index.htm file.
With our new server, it is also necessary to use all lower case letters in file
names and hypertext links to those files. Our staff is editing all existing page
documents and files to ensure that pages will be properly displayed. If you
are maintaining your own page, please download the edited versions before
making updates, and use all lower case letters in future updates.
Additionally, we wish to inform you of our policy on web page file space.
For virtual domains and business web pages hosted on our server, a limit of
30 megabytes has been set. A soft limit of 25 megabytes will provide you
notification as you approach the hard limit. For personal web pages the
limit is set at 2 mb.
Access statistics:
Usage statistics for virtual domains can now be viewed by accessing /stats.(your domain name). You will be prompted for your user name and password. Most user names and passwords are the same as those used when you dial into your account with Dynamic, if that does not work please call us and we will help you. For security reasons you must be logged onto our network to access the statistics.
Log files include but are not limited to access, error, stats, CGI, and FTP.
