E-Mail Security Problems & Solutions
|
Always be aware of who is sending E-mail to you. Especially have caution when downloading file attachments from strangers.
A. Netscape 4.0 through 4.05
- If you receive a file attachment with a long name, don't select the file menu while viewing the message!
- You can save the attachment to your hard disk by right clicking on the attachment link in the message and selecting the Save Link As.
B. Microsoft Outlook Express 4.X
- If you receive an E-Mail that contains an attachment with a very long file name, it might cause your program to shut down.
- If you are using Outlook Express 4.0 that comes with Explorer 4.0, please upgrade to Explorer 4.01. (http://www.microsoft.com/ie/download)
- Install the updated patch. (http://www.microsoft.com/ie/security/oelong.htm)
C. Microsoft Outlook 98
- When downloading an attachment file that has a long filename, Out look could terminate. You don't have to open the message for this to happen. (this does not affect Outlook 97)
- Install the updated patch. (http://www.microsoft.com/outlook/enhancements/outptch2.asp)
D. Eudora 4.0 and 4.0.1 for Windows
- An executable program could be attached to your E-mail and could be linked as an URL. If you click on the URL, the program could launch the E-mail attachment.
- Download the new version 4.1. (http://eudora.qualcomm.com/betas/epro41.html) Or
- Disable the Microsoft Viewer in Eudora's Options, then download the fix patch for the problem. (http://eudora.qualcomm.com/pro_email/updaters.html)
